Barrio Beach Clean-Up

Saturday 19th September is....

INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEAN-UP DAY !!

This event is hosted by the Ocean Conservancy and takes place all over the world.

The Island of Malapascua has developed as a famous diving destination thanks to the regualar, and intimate, thresher shark encounters that the nearby dive site of Monad Shoal offers.

While the island has benefitted from the resulting dive tourism, there have been some not so desirable consequences. One of the these is the increase in letter that has left some parts of the island badly in need of some attention.

We love Malapascua! So to do our part to help combat this problem, we have organised a Beach Clean-Up event on the White Beach in the main village on the island - Logon. It will take place from 3pm onwards

There will be music! (we think a party atmosphere will help), drinks and snacks (although no throw away plastics!)

We ask that everyone brings:

  • A rice sack/bag to collect litter
  • A mug (for the drinks)
  • A smile !!

We will keep collecting until we run out of bags!!

To get the litter off the island, the local Barangay has offered the use of their boat, and we will charter another private one also. Both will leave to the mainland on Tuesday.
