Underwater Trash We’ve Collected is Adding Up to Something Big

Project AWARE News

We’ve been removing debris from underwater environments together for decades but now, we’re going to share what we’ve found with the rest of the world. More importantly, we’re going to use the information to prevent the trash from our everyday lives from ending up in the ocean in the first place.

That's why Project AWARE launched Dive Against Debris in 2011. With the help of thousands of divers, debris removal efforts have stepped up and divers are actively protecting marine life including sharks and rays that can get tangled in trash.

You've been hard at work and have removed and reported an amazing total of nearly 400,000 pieces of debris since June 2011! I’m sure you’ll remember some of your most incredible finds. We sure do. Thank you for reporting what you've found.

We know all your work is adding up to something remarkable. Next month we’ll reveal what you’ve reported over the last three years. That information will help Project AWARE identify target areas where waste reduction efforts are needed most.

Have we piqued your interest? Stay tuned to see your Dive Against Debris work surface in a whole new way.
