What?

This is a new PADI Project AWARE underwater debris data collection effort. It is a year-round activity that I will be organising on a monthly basis at Sandycove in south Dublin.

I am calling on scuba divers/snorkelers and general public to volunteer to remove debris so that we can record and report the types of debris that we find.

Why?

You will be contributing to a global effort to build a complete picture of the impacts of marine debris. The information we collect and report will help change local and regional waste policies.

More than 260 marine species are affected by marine debris. Sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, fishes, seabirds and many other animals ingest or get entangled in rubbish.

The simple act of telling people about your Dive Against Debris will increase awareness of this issue and can help move us towards a world where we reduce, reuse and recycle to stop marine debris.

Where?

The next event will be held on the 14th of July at 6.30pm at Sandycove (South Dublin). There will be a fantastic prize of a family day pass to the National Sea Life Centre Bray for the most unusual piece of marine debris found!

- To take part in the event visit the sea-dive face book page and click attend or contact me at [email protected]
- Prior to the event have a read through the Dive Against Debris: Self Study Guide
- On the day of the event there will be a short orientation and safety brief.
- I will provide a limited number of mesh bags for collecting the debris but if you own one I could you please bring it along.
- Don't forget to bring some food for the BBQ  :)
