Skills in knots have benefits to conservation!

updates

Learning basic nautical skills, such as tying knots, is valuable for diver safety, practical underwater activities and assisting in conservation.

Platinum PADI Course Director Richard Swann demonstrates to our local Go PRO interns on how to tie knots for the Search and Recovery workshop of their PADI Divemaster course.

In the dive, the student divers will tie the sheet bend, bowline and two half hitch knots with efficient demonstration. Once mastering those skills, they will one-by-one practice securing a liftbag to a 4kg weight belt (the missing object) and ascend it safely to the surface.

Tying knots are used in our various conservation programs we organize at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre.

Our local Go PRO interns have assisted their PADI Instructor colleagues to arrange man-made coral blocks along the reef to encourage marine life biodiversity. During the operation, a simple rope-and-pulley mechanism on the boat was used to lower the blocks slowly to the sea bottom, and it was controlled with secure knots!

There will be plenty of occasions in their future dive careers to make use of their knot-tying skills, so we encourage them to use it at any opportunity! For example, when discarding everyday home waste to recycle, keep it secure with a two half hitch knot to avoid accidental littering.
