This September 2014 Project Aware carries on the tradition of the whole month being Debris Month of Action, and at Two Fish we always support this.  Not only during the month of September in fact, we organise clean-up dives all year round, but we up the game a little during September!

On September 14th in Lembeh our DMT Ishan organised a Dive Against Debris survey.  All of our Divemaster trainees are in fact tasked with this as we believe that any responsible Divemaster should be passionate about the environment and know how to organise Project Aware programs.

On September 14th we sent our boat to Kareko Pasir dive site, in front of one of Lembeh's villages.  We have made several clean-up's here before and happily we see less and less marine debris each time we go.  Starting with almost 200kg a couple of years ago on this dive we collected 52kg.  It is still a lot of debris, but it is getting so much better!

As usual in Lembeh the main culprit was plastic rubbish, with some 532 plastic wrappers collected and 121 plastic drinking containers.  It wouldn't be a clean-up dive in Lembeh without some completely random items and this was no exception with our strangest items being a paint roller, and an anti-mosquito plug in device!

After each Dive Against Debris survey we upload our data to Project Aware so that they can take the overall results and target the "bigger fish" to help reduce marine debris in our oceans.
