Weather doesn’t stop our efforts!

updates

A windy day it may be, but Adam and Danny persevere with their efforts to collect the marine debris washed up on the shores of our tropical Gaya Island beaches.

For the last few weeks it’s been fairly choppy waters on the surface with a southwesterly wind causing marine debris from the mainland of Kota Kinabalu to collect in sheltered bays and lagoons of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park islands. But the boys have persevered and, with the guidance of our island staff team, they have developed a commitment to the environmental causes as a result of the inspiring dive education they have received from their colleagues; our full time PADI professionals at our Dive Centre.

The two new marine activists are currently completing their 1-year ‘Work For a Career’ program, which is similar to a Go PRO internship program we offer our international clients to develop professional dive skills.

Adam and Danny will increase more than their employment opportunities once they’ve climbed the ladder to the level of PADI Divemaster, but they will also develop their confidence and knowledge in other ways.

Their involvement in our regularly conducted conservation programs, in particular the underwater and beach cleanups with our adventure groups, are experiences to enhance their understanding of the harmful effects of marine debris to our seas and oceans. In future they can impart this valuable firsthand experience to educate their own student divers when they begin their dive careers as PADI Divemasters.

It’s crucial for our local PADI Divemaster interns to understand their local environment and spread the awareness to the local community so that we can see a difference to preserve our marine world and enjoy it!
