IDC Gili Islands – Environmentally friendly Instructor Development Course

updates

Are you thinking about taking your PADI Instructor Development Course? ThePADI IDC Gili Trawangan based program is not only educationally, one of the best places to train as a PADI Instructor but is actually one of the more environmentally friendly methods of doing so.

One of the hallmark phrases you will see when visiting the Gili islands is no cars, no motorbikes, and no dogs. Firstly no dogs; this is basically because of religious reasons, but however it does help in escaping the spread of rabies that has now been a problem in neighboring Bali for a number of years and of course it’s great to go to sleep at night without the sound of howling stray dogs prowling the streets looking for their next meal. No cars obviously means we totally avoid that whole unnecessary journey in a diesel fueled van that can often been seen transporting divers to various dive sites or even sometimes to meet the dive boat. No motorcycles means that equipment, tank transport and small errands are all undertaken by foot. All of the processes added together can only equal a negative effect on the environment and by diving in Gili Trawangan these effect are completely eradicated.  Of course there is the boat and its engine, but the sites in and around the Gili Islands are extremely close and therefore the environmental impact is once again minimalized.

Our PADI 5 Star IDC Career Development Center sits directly on the beach and our IDC training site is situated literally a stone’s throw away meaning a minimal environmental impact combined with a logistically more effective schedule i.e. by having a minimum travel time we can fully maximize classroom and water based presentation time.

Our resort offers the most spacious facilities of any Dive Resort on Gili Trawangan and comprises of accommodation, 2 bars, swimming pool, beachside restaurant and relaxing gazebos. We have also purpose built lush tropical gardens surrounding our resort that not only create a fantastic ambiance for guests but also allows us to offset any impacts we do have on the environment.

Also should potential Instructor candidates wish to go one step further, we work very closely with the Gili Eco Trust in the design, construction and installation of the many Biorock structures that surround the Gili Islands and candidates are more than welcome to take one of the many Biorock programs on offer. Usually candidates will either arrive early to take a Biorock program before the IDC or alternatively in the days after the Instructor Exam, whilst waiting for their teaching status to be initiated by PADI.

As diving is one of the largest industries in the Gili Islands we are also conscious of sustaining the local industry and therefore are closely with other dive centers to train local Indonesia citizens to become PADI Instructors. In fact, although many Indonesian Divemasters have chosen Trawangan Dive to train as a PADI Instructors, this year we have trained two local Instructors. Ovan, who works at Gili Divers as a boat captain, equipment technician, compressor engineer and Divemaster always wanted to become a PADI Instructor so as he can introduce new divers to the underwater realm that he loves so much. The fact the he has returned to Gili Divers and is now enjoying a rewarding and successful career teaching new divers makes Ovan's IDC Gili Islands Story so fantastic. Another local candidate this year has been sulman, who is born and bred in Gili Meno. Sulman was also a boat captain and Divemaster at Blue Marlin Gili Meno and what make Sulman's IDC Gili Islands Journey such an amazing story is that he is the first ever PADI Instructor from Gili Meno.

As well as the sustainable and environmental benefits of taking the PADI IDC Career Development Program at Trawangan Dive it is also renowned to be the best possible place to train as an Instructor. Our 5 Star IDC Resort was actually the first ever PADI Career Development Center to be established in the Gili Islands and the entire Lombok Region. Our Platinum PADI Course Director, Holly conducts all of the instructor level programs offered at Trawangan Dive and lives here in Gili Trawangan full time so not only does she conduct the entire Instructor Development Course and attends the PADI Instructor Examination and of course is always around afterward should you require any further training. After the Course she is also available to assist candidates with job applications, C.V construction and any other advice you may need entering into your new career.
