Main Beach Dive Against Debris - World Oceans Day

updates

Langley Diving responded to the call from the Cultus Lake Residents Association to help cleanup the lake.

As they do every year, The Cultus Lake Aquatics Stewardship Strategy (CLASS), is hosting a Pikeminnow Fishing Derby in Cultus Lake.  The Pikeminnow is a predator of Sockeye Salmon and other fish species.  The derby will be held on Fathers Day weekend.

CLASS is committed to the protection of fish stocks and also to the protection of Cultus Lake as a environmental eco system.

The debris we collected was stored and then displayed during the Pikeminnow Derby as an educational exhibit to old and young regarding the importance of keeping Cultus Lake clean.

This event is for all divers and limited free rental gear was available from Langley Diving for the day in exchange for a donation to Project AWARE, in addition to a lunch for all for a cash donation to Project AWARE.

All funds collected from gear rentals ($400), lunch ($260) and re-cycling of the debris ($100) we collect will be given to Project AWARE, making a total contribution of $760 to benefit Project AWARE. Thank you Langley Divers for your generosity and support.
