New Recycle Bins for Downbelow 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, Borneo

updates

The local municipal council of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Borneo recently provided our dive centre in Gaya Island Borneo with some brand new recycle bins.

Of course we were very ecstatic about this because we sure can use new bins with the daily morning clean-up that we do on the shoreline at our dive centre. As past experience shows these bins will fill up pretty fast especially when there is a strong wind the night before. All kinds of marine debris will wash up to our shore!

Getting support from the local authority is vital if we want to keep this park clean for the sake of the marine ecosystem here. If everyone contributes with whatever resources that they can spare and help each other, the burden bore by each party is less and the task gets just a little bit easier.

For Downbelow, we love the ocean and the marine animals so we don't think twice about helping nature by cleaning our shores every morning, remove illegally dumped fishing nets, practise responsible tourism, educate on conservation to our guests and students, reducing the usage of plastic in the office, ban the use of polysterene containers and we recycle our unwanted papers.

Aside from creating awareness, Downbelow also regularly conduct Project AWARE beach and reef clean-up events in Kota Kinabalu, and incorporate environmental education in all our group programs.

Downbelow is proud to have earned the PADI Green Star Award™ and we continue to strive to find new ways of further reducing our environmental footprint for the good of our oceans and to the benefit of our divers.
