BILLS for GILLS Fundraiser Pitch!

BILLS FOR GILLS!
East Hills Cavaliers Change the World for Endangered Species!

This event was the result of Leah Daniels and Juhi Parekh's involvement in a "Be The Change" class taught by Miss Smith. In the class students are encouraged to research and take action on causes that they care about. Leah and Juhi chose marine animals as their topic. They planned a "Change War" among grade levels where students bring in their loose change for a series of days and the grade with the most money earned won popsicles! Although the students originally took Miss Smith's class in the 7th grade, they were so devoted to the cause that they persisted and were able to carry out their plan to Be The Change during the fall of their 8th grade year.

To date, BILLS FOR GILLS is the MOST successful of all of the student fundraising projects that sprang from Miss Smith's Be The Change class. Leah and Juhi's devotion led to a grand total of over $1500.00 raised on behalf of endangered whales and sharks!! The girls wanted a large chunk of this funding to go to the important work that Project AWARE is doing. Other funds went to adopting both an Orca Whale and Great White Shark through the World Wildlife Fund, as well as supporting the efforts of The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Association.

We are extremely proud of these girls and their very giving classmates, but most of all, excited that the hard work they did to run a successful fundraiser is able to help Project AWARE with it's hard work!

More information about East Hills Middle School's efforts to "Be Green" as well as a Powtoon video and photo of Leah, Juhi and some donating students can be seen on our newly created "Green East Hills" website: http://greeneasthills.weebly.com on the lower left of the ABOUT page.

We send out a big thanks to all of the staff and students that participated in this very successful venture! The student project leaders, Leah Daniels and Juhi Parekh, inspired their peers to raise over $1500.00 to help these beautiful animals!

This is the Project Aware account of East Hills Middle School, maintained by the school media specialist (i.e. librarian) Miss Smith in honor of the BILLS FOR GILLS fundraiser project run by two of our 8th grade students.
