Some of our full time PADI Instructors went scuba diving on their day off on Sunday and discovered the Eurypegasus draconis!

The rare creature, known commonly as Little Dragonfish or Pegasus Sea Moth, was found only a few metres from our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya Island.

The fish is usually found in muddy seabed and uses this environment to camouflage themselves from predators.

Our staff was probably more surprised than the unsuspecting Pegasus Sea Moth happily searching for small invertebrates to feed on! There are some species of Sea Moths that are categorized ‘Data Deficient’ by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and the species Pegasus laternarius is of a ‘Vulnerable’ status, meaning we could lose it to extinction unless circumstances improve!

Our mission as scuba diving professionals is to spread the awareness of our marine environment. The public must know the threats that cause environmental damage, so that the commitment to preservation is a simple decision!
