ECO KOH TAO

updates

I live on a small tropical island named Koh Tao, located in the southern area of the Thai Gulf. We have a multitude of soft and hard corals, some turtles, reef- and whale sharks, seahorses, and large numbers of other beautiful fish and small critters swimming around us every day. Due to growing tourism every year and heavy traffic on different dive sites there is still a lot to be done to protect this very special environment, to many named just "Paradise". Since I came back here in May I have been a part of several of the Save Koh Tao/ECO Koh Tao projects that have been set into action every month. You can easily find more information about this movement on Facebook here!

So far on Koh Tao I've been working together with Crystal Dive Resort and Nathan Cook on their artificial reef projects. For me and my fellow eco warriors it is important to share our environmental awareness with others. Our work has included coral reef checks and restorations; building metal structures, bringing them to and placing them underwater on the dive sites, making bottle nurseries, collecting and transplanting broken coral fragments, creating new homes for fish and expanding the biodiversity of the reef. We have also been making and preparing new mooring/buoy lines, and arranged beach and dive site clean-ups.

I will post pictures of our work and keep this blog updated as often as I can. Until next time, dive against debris and spread the word - Love & Light Kris
