July participants complete our latest Eco Divemaster course

updates

Well done to Charlotte, Ane, Gabriel and Tinsley who recently completed our Eco Divemaster course. During their stay with us they were required not only to complete the standard PADI Divemaster course, but also to complete the Reef Check EcoDive program and to get involved in Scuba Junkie's environmental program including reef cleans, beach cleans and the Mabul Turtle Hatchery program.

The Scuba Junkie Eco Divemaster course incorporates the Reef Check EcoDiver program in which DMTs learn the Reef Check methodology and how to identify various species of fish, invertebrates and substrates. Once they have proven themselves in the classroom they get to practice in the water with one of our Reef Check Instructors before conducting surveys with our certified Reef Check divers. The information gathered from these surveys helps us to gauge the health of coral reef systems, monitor changes over time and identify potential/existing threats and is submitted to Reef Check Malaysia. We can then use this information to design action plans capable of protecting reefs for future generations.
