Still Working On Saving the Coral Reefs of Borneo

updates

Downbelow Managing Director and PADI Platinum Course Director Richard Swann together with his team of staff and PADI Divemaster trainees continued their coral replanting project.

In our first report of the project, Richard taught the team the importance of coral reefs to the environment and took a few old unused water tanks and converted them into artificial reef blocks.

The next phase was taking these large containers and placing them at the bottom of the ocean within the protected areas of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, Borneo.

This phase was the most physically challenging as they had to secure the containers, which can weight up to 80kg each, to the boat, drive them to the ocean and then sink them to the bottom.

Fortunately Richard and his boys did well. They used some old tyres filled them with concrete and placed them at the bottom of the containers to ensure they stay in place even when the seas get rough.

All of this in the name of conservation!
