PADI/Project Aware Eco-Day 2012, with Save Koh Tao

updates

On October 15th, 2012, PADI and Project Aware hosted an Eco Day event on Koh Tao in order to get more professional divers involved in community and global conservation activities and initiatives. Over 120 professional divers from the island attended, and spent the day rotating between 4 events:

-A presentation by Mike Holmes of Project Aware on the local and global initiatives going on.

-A presentation by Chad Scott about the Save Koh Tao Community Group’s efforts in Marine Zoning and Regulations.

-A Mooring Buoy Workshop, in which participants helped to make new lines for the ‘No Boat Zones’ on Koh Tao.

- A sign making workshop, where participants helped us to make over 50 signs to be placed around the island, all with an environmental message, as part of our Ocean Action Grant Project.

PADI also provided free food and Drink for all participants at the end of the day. Thank you very much to Tim Hunt for putting on this great event, and to David Scanlan, Poli Nahum, Krista Espelien, Simon and Jenny Dowling, and all the others who helped make the event such a success!
