Borneo Adventure Group Becomes Coral Reef & Shark AWARE

updates

Our May Borneo Adventure group camped over at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya island just off shore Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The brand new divers busied themselves with Open Water courses, whilst already-qualified divers went on to do their Advanced Diver course.

The weather here in Borneo was near perfect for most of the days the group camped out at Downbelow's Beach House, making it very easy to appreciate nature's bounty both onshore and below the surface.

Being able to experience prestine ecological environments, such as we do here in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, is a very powerful aide for courses such as AWARE Coral Reef Conservation.

Our group programs always feature ecology education, to foster awareness with new divers from the very start.

Not only did the group of 19 learn about coral reefs, but they also became aware these bastions of ocean life are under threat.  Luckily the course also include an action plan for coral reef conservation and we are sure they will live and spread the Project AWARE word.

Additionally, the Borneo Adventure group also got involved with the plight of Sharks and were surprised to learn what a big push there already is for shark rights in Europe and around the world.

Eager to support the new tourism destination that opened to them as divers - the ocean below the surface - the 19 adventurers signed Project AWARE's Shark Petition, joining the ever-growing chorus of voices speaking out against the systematic destruction of shark populations across the globe.
