Earth Day Dive Against Debris - Jupiter Dive Center, Florida

updates

On Earth Day, April 22, 2012 a great group of divers went offshore and cleaned the ledges off Jupiter, Florida. About 30 pounds of debris was gathered up by 14 divers in less than an hour and a half underwater. Most of the debris was made up of fishing line, which weighs very little and takes time and care to remove off the reef. Fishing line also accounts for some of the most harm to marine life. The day began with a Project Aware presentation on marine debris, the group had lunch and then headed offshore for a 2 tank dive. The seas were fairly calm, water temps 72 and vis was 30-40ft. The debris was tallied up and reported to ProjectAware.org. We will continue to clean these sites and report future findings. These divers will receive the Project Aware specialty card. The event was listed as a Billion Acts of Green through Earth Day Network and as a Dive Against Debris through Project Aware. The crew at Jupiter Dive Center had a great time hosting this event! Congratulations to these divers! Job well done!!!!
