Plastic dust? Have you heard of it? Tiny, pointless plastic particles washing around in the ocean. Just like sand. But sand belongs there. Plastic doesn’t.

In some parts of the ocean there’s more plastic than plankton. Small pieces of plastic make their way into our food chain. Not to mention what it does to the health of the ocean. And think of the marine life.

Last Friday I had a night out, without the kids. But I didn't go dancing. You’re wondering why not. The answer is simple.

Pointless plastic. It drives me crazy.

So I found myself at Warringah Council's free screening of the movie Bag It, hosted by Tim Silverwood, Environmentalist, photographer, film maker.

Tim sailed to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch last year to see the toxic plastic soup for himself. Tim brought back a souvenir. A jar full of tiny bits of plastic particles he’d collected on his trip. Shocking.   

It’s true we all have far too much ‘stuff’ in our lives. But single use plastic makes no sense.

The Bag It movie follows regular guy Jeb Berrier on a quest to find out more about the humble plastic bag.

 “Think about it, why would you make something that you’re going to use for a few minutes out of a material that’s basically going to last forever, and you’re just going to throw it away. What’s up with that?” Jeb Berrier

With so much plastic finding its’ way to the ocean it is hard to look at a plastic bottle top again and wonder if it is going to end up killing a turtle in the Pacific.

This interesting, often funny film will make you want to live a life less plastic.
