Mabul Turtle Hatchery receives 1st eggs of 2012....

updates

We are very proud and excited that the Scuba Junkie sponsored Mabul Turtle Hatchery recieved its first eggs of 2012. We recieved a call from the local people on Mabul that a Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) was laying her eggs in the middle of a pathway over the South side of the island. We quickly moved onlookers back and she was allowed then to lay and safely return to the water. The eggs were then carefully collected by experienced staff and relocated to the safety of the Mabul Turtle Hatchery at our Mabul Beach Resort where the eggs will be looked after by our staff. All in all there were 117 eggs collected and relocated to a out hatchery where we hope in in the next 50 - 70 days we will have many baby turtles to realese back to the ocean. We would like to thank Steven from Borneo Divers for his assitance and also the people of Mabul for their help in contacting us when the turtle was spotted. A great day for Mabul and a great experience for all involved...
