Atlantis Dive Centre - First Clean Up 2012

updates

HUGE HUGE thanks to everyone who volunteered their time to come and remove the fishing nets.

We found 3 nets in the end.  All of about 100m in length.  It was a great effort by everyone and huge thanks to Captain Ali from World Security who allerted us to the problem.

Many fish were released and for many unfortunatly we were too late.  Such a horrible sight.  The nets had been caught up on the breakwater and as nets do carried on catching fish.  Most of the nets were brought up to the surface but still more work to do but we will be back to get the last of the nets.

The most frustrating part spending 5 minutes carefully cutting a fish out and watching it swim back into the net.  But again everyone did not give up and carried on re-releasing the fish.

The ones we could not bring up the floats were cut off so at least it just rests on the sea bed....for now.

We will be doing many more of these events, one a month so please keep checking in and you help is very much appreciated.
