Shark fin soup is a popular soup item of Chinese cuisine usually served at special occasions such as weddings and banquets in Chinese culture. The shark fins provide texture while the taste comes from the other soup ingredients.

Being a Chinese as well as a diver, I am not proud of this tradition. Joining the efforts with all divers, I too played a role today to educate others regarding on the cruelty involved in shark finning.

Recently, I've attended a few weddings from my fellow apprentice divers that too have shown thier effort and support against shark finning by not serving the guest shark fin soup. Let us all start now before it's too late to save one of our ocean's rare gem.
