Sandgrains underwater photographer

updates

Sandgrains is gearing up for production in Cape Verde in 2012.

We are very pleased to have renowned underwater photographer and filmmaker Andrew Sutton shooting our underwater scenes by the coast of the Cape Verdean island Santiago.

Andrew will film local fishermen as they dive for the staple fish kavala, and also women from the village of Ribeira da Barca when they dive for sand, as the once enormous beach by the village is now nearly depleted. The lack of sand on land is forcing villagers into the perilous currents and crashing waves to scrape up what sand remains underwater.

Andrew Sutton recently returned from Sri Lanka, where he shot a documentary about blue and sperm whales together with Philip Hoare, author of the acclaimed book Leviathan. Some examples of Andrew's work in Sri Lanka can be found on http://www.wildlifeextra.com/go/whales/blue-whales-underwater.html#cr
