Last weekend the Aussie Fundraiser team hit the road and I was pleased to join divers from St George Underwater Centre to give them a royal send off in true Aussie fashion, with a Dive Against Debris followed by a BBQ.

Aussie Fundraiser is the initiative of Alan Nash and Tommy Soderstrom, owners of El Galleon Dive Resort and Asia Divers in the Philippines. Together they are riding around Australia to raise funds for Project AWARE and the Springboard Foundation, which cares for street children in the Philippines.

30 divers scoured along the northern shore of Botany Bay and pulled out the usual suspects in the form of plastics of all types and lots of fishing tackle, and the truly noxious in the form of a car battery. We also hauled out a complete plastic car bumper that had no business being under the water.
