Dive For Earth Day in Philippines sees Dramatic Reduction in Butts

updates

Boracay Island, Philippines celebrated a month long of activities for Earth Day. Electrical appliances were turned off and local dive centres teamed up to keep the island’s waters and beaches clean.

Following the new beach and smoking ban regulations from the Government launched on International Cleanup Day 2010, Sue Gibbins from Calypso Dive reported a drop in the number of cigarette butts, “There’s a marked reduction in cigarette butts and packaging in the water and on the beachfront and plenty of healthy marine life. The island is looking in great shape.”
