Comments | Fishing line had entangled two Sea Fans. I removed the lines by cutting out the lines. One could see that the lines do harm the sea fans by allowing alges to grow and slowly take over the sea fans. |
Additional Information
Apart from fishing gear being lost. It seems it is long line fishing gear that gets blown onto the site.
Discarded or lost monofilament fishing lines
Comments and Feedback
The reef section of the site was still covered in lines. In 2022 I personally removed a lot of old fishing lines from the site but there is still more. The lines all had a lot of marine growth on them. There were no 'new' discarded fishing lines since 2022.
The dive site is only accessed by boat through diving center Mihuric. The dive center plans to clean up the site. The dive was not planned as dive against debris. There is still alot of lines on the reef. Each dive since 2022 I have tried to remove a little more. No new lines were seen which is good.
